In 1998, The Escola de Capoeira Angola Mato Rasteiro was founded by Mestre Roxinho in Salvador de Bahia. He then took the school to São Paulo, where capoeira angola was still relatively unknown. There, students and members of the local community set up social and cultural projects that continue today.
Mestre Roxinho also created a series of seminars about Afro-Brazilian culture within Capoeira Angola. His aim is to raise awareness of African culture and help reduce social exclusion the Afro-community still experiences today.
