The group "Angoleiros do Sertao" was founded in Feira de Santana / Bahia by Mestre Claudio Costa in the 1980s. Over the years the group also expanded in the state of Sao Paulo and new branches were created in the cities of Bauru, Rancharia and Paraguacu Paulista. Today there are groups of the “Angoleiros do Sertao” in Assis, Maracai, Matinopolis, Joa Ramalho, Presidente Prudente and Marilia. Outside of Brazil there are currently groups in Helsinki (Finland), Split (Croatia) and, since 2014, in Wuppertal (Germany).
For the "Angoleiros do Sertao", Capoeira Angola is an important means of preserving Afro-Brazilian culture, be it through physical expression, rhythms, music, philosophy or other forms of expression.
