The Capoeira Carcarà group was born in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro. Its founder, Mestre Jimmy, chooses the name of the group in homage to a bird from the arid hinterland of northern Brazil, which had attracted his interest when he was a student of Physical Education at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro: the Carcarà is an animal that overcomes adversity and survives without food.
Currently the group is present in Rio de Janeiro, Berlin and Rome.
